My new project: Art Skirt

I am so excited about this new project I have to show it off before its finished.

"What the heck is that!", you ask. Well it is an a-line skirt panel cut from bleached white muslin with all kinds of stuff sewed onto it. I have yarn, ric-rac,fabric of all types, tulle (for a 3 d effect) ribbons of all kinds and I have some bridal trims I am gonna hand sew on here too. I am planning on using some of everything I have in this house meant for sewing. Bias tape, buttons, ect....

I got this idea when I made that one cuff...you know, this one:

I thought this kind of thing looked so cool on a cuff, what if I did it on a bigger scale?? like a skirt panel! Or better yet a whole skirt!!!!!!!!!

OK I am 3 hours into that panel pictured up top and you see what I have got done on it so far...I have many hours to go on that one, so a whole skirt may be a long term project.

I am hoping I can find my cowery shells I have here someplace...I am sticking with greens and blues on this panel and I am trying to get an ocean type theme going so having some shells on there would be cool. I am using so many different fabrics on this. I have some velour I will be using. There are already some glittery decorator fabrics in it, and some batiks. I am just having a ball going thru my scrap box!

When I get this finished it will be posted here! I am hoping I can get it done soon. i plan on spending a few hours every day on it till its done. This project may very well be the highlight of my career till now! YAY!

fancy new Fabric cuff

This is it! The new fancy fabric cuff. I love the way it turned out, EXCEPT for the back....

I had this thing totally completed, and I was locking the thread on the last stitch and I realized....I put the elastic loop on the same side as the button (sigh) So I had to cut it off and sew it like you see here in the picture....tacky.

You can see from this close up how pretty this turned out. its a scrap of the Alexander Henry fabric I got for Maylee's pants, and I added in some yarn, some pretty trim Kelly sent me, and some ribbon with fray check added to keep it from getting crazy. I also used a metallic pink thread to do the freehand quilting. Oh yeah this has a wee bit of lavender added inside of it too...nice touch! Not only does it look pretty it smells pretty too!

I am gonna be putting this on Etsy at a discounted price because of my HUGE mistake...I feel like its so pretty someone would love to have it but its got issues with the craftsmanship so maybe someone would love it at a cheaper price...lets keep our fingers crossed! LOL

I just love making these things, and I am hoping to be getting a new sewing machine very soon, and I will be doing more and more stuff like this.

I am having major issues with my machine which is an embroidery/sewing combo machine, and I will never own another Janome again EVER! I hope I can get a Husky-something...they look pretty heavy duty! Anyone want to comment and leave your suggestions for a good sewing machine that dont break down every couple of months please feel free to comment!! I could use some suggestions

Thanks for the birthday love!

I wanted to thank everyone that left birthday love comments for me yesterday! I feel so warm and fuzzy inside its unreal, and I had a lot of love from my hippiesew mama's yesterday too. I did not realize how many birthday messages I got till I got more into my inbox!

I am just so happy that so many people took the time to leave me a comment here or a message on hippiesew. I cant thank you all enough for the love...especially on my 34th birthday!

I am 34 this year...egads! How did I get this old! I guess its a combination of pure determination and the fact that I keep on living no matter what. I am stubborn so here I am 34 years OLD.

If I feel this old at 34 what am I gonna feel like at 44? AHHHH, god I dont wanna think about it!!!! (runs away into the night throwing beer bottles and cursing)

Yesterday was pretty uneventful. I woke up (as usual) and did some sewing on this poor womans custom I have had for WAY too long. I did finish it up by the way. We went to some place my husband likes to eat....yeah you read it right. Then we went to a fabric store. Its a quilt shop that has been here for 5 years and I didnt know about it, can you believe that! I couldnt resist the designer fabrics so I spent 20 bucks getting fabrics for Maylee to have 2 of these really cute outfits I made a pattern for. Here is one of the outfits...this is the first one I made like 2 days ago. it turned out perfect, i just measured her a whol lot and got busy drafting a pattern. Everyone LOVED this outfit when we went out yesterday

I made this one out of yellow jersey knit, and a blue corduroy sun applique, cool huh?

Here is my new conquest in fabrics for her other outfits

The top is just a cotton gingham print but the bottom is a new Alexander henry print. i LOVE Alexander henry and will buy damn enar anything made by him. I see SOOOO many designer fabrics in this quilt shop and they are ALL 8.50 a yard and up, so I could never shop there for fabrics for my clothes but its nice to dress Maylee up. All I need is a 1/4 yard for a top like this one, and 1/2 a yard for pants

Here is my other conquest:

I cant remember what designer these come from AHHHH! But I do know I could not come home without these fabrics. here you see they have already been cut out into pants and a top. I actually got the top finished last night but am still working on the pants. I need to hem them, add a ruffle or something and some ric rac. I will post pics of Maylee in this one cause she is gonna be super cute as always.

So that was the most exciting thing that happened on my birthday. I got fabric for Maylee, I got to do some fun sewing in between trips out in the heat to go places and do stuff like grocery store and crap.

Justin's Birthday was the 19th, and he told me he wanted chocolate cupcakes with blue sprinkles for his birthday. I asked him just for fun what you are supposed to get girls for their birthday, he said,"Flowers." I said, "you go Justin! Thats a good present. What else would you buy for a girl on her birthday?" Justin replies,"Alarm clock." I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants. he thinks girls like alarm clocks and flowers. I probed further to get some idea of why he thinks this and he really honestly believes girls like alarm clocks...I loves my Justin. he turned 15 on tuesday. He was due on my birthday all those years ago, he still made a mighty fine birthday present.

OK thats all for my birthday excitement...yay. I almost had a heart attack from all the excitement yesterday...NOT! But I do appreciate all the love from you guys, I really do. I have so many friends here online and I hope someday I can meet each and every one of you in person!

Showing off

Ok first I want to show off this skirt I got. I was playing around on Etsy and I happened to come across this shop called Delightfully Deliah.

I noticed she had this awesomely colored skirt in her shop and to make my find even better,it was on sale! See the smug look on my face cause I scored such a great find and on SALE too!!!

Her shop is filled with gorgeous pixie hem skirts in every kind of color combo ou can imagine! She has a lot of autumn stuff up now cause its getting to be that time of the year to think about falling leaves and stuff! get your fall gear now, what better place to start than with a fall colored fairy skirt!

The stitching on this skirt is fantastic! She did a great job of constructing this, and it hangs very nice. The only bad thing is her skirts only go up to 44 inches in the waist. I fit this only by 2 inches LOL. I bet she would do a custom if ya ask her real nice (wink) So if she gets swamped with plus size customs, she knows where they come from!

I LUUURRRVE Pink and green of course, and this skirt makes me feel like a fairy princess. I think everybody needs to own one! So go get you one! What are ya waiting for!
She ships out super fast too, so you dont have to wait forever to get your hands on your cool fairy goods!

OK for my next item to show off is a custom I just finished after it taking for eternity. I made all this patchwork myself...all by myself and I am quite proud of how it turned out. i dont do patchwork stuff like this often because of the time involved, and I do charge a pretty penny to do patchwork too. I am super proud of this one!!

I LOVE these!! Thanks so much Jesse for your sweet business.

And for my next items...yeah I am on a roll today aint I?

I have posted all kinds of new stuff in my Etsy shop. I have an ACEO, a new skirt with a fairy embroidered on it sitting on a mushroom, and I have a new product! I had this idea about herb charms...a little pouch you can wear like a neckalce filled with herbs. I filled these with lavender. You can hang them on ribbon or a plain hemp necklace, or you can just stick em in your drawers or in your closet to keep your clothes smelling sweet. I will include a free length of ribbon free upon request for each herb Charm ordered. I am planning on making many many more, I have tons of ideas for these, and I hope they sell! AHHH! I really enjoy making them cause its a lot of handwork. i like to sew by hand.

I also have some new soaps in Maylees Garden

yes this is my new CUPCAKE soap. Its scented with Patchouli essential oil on the bottom and Vanilla fragrance oil on the top. these are now brown on the top, after I gave up after 3 days for them to turn and I took these pictures then I noticed the other day they finally turned brown LOL They are super cute now. I need to redo the pictures, but these turned out so cool. i love the shadow effect.

here you have from left to right, tangerine bergamot, Tuberose, and vanilla peppermint. I am currently using a bar of the vanilla pappermint and OMG! I love that one. I have made it before and every time I do I have to use some LOL. Clicking the links will take you to the item.
